Batboy Returns

From his humble beginnings as a bat-boy and PR intern for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, to a starter for the Toronto Blue Jays - Jesse Litsch’s career comes full circle tonight when he takes the mount tonight against the Rays in St. Petersburg.

It’s a homecoming of sorts for Litsch as he grew up in Pinellas Park, Florida which is just a mere 15 minutes away from Tropicana Park. Jesse was raised in Dunedin, and as a child went to many Jays and Rays spring training games with his father.

I came across a very interesting article about Jesse’s days with the Devil Rays. Apparently players used to rub his head for good luck, and pitcher Albie Lopez even clipped some of his red locks and took it on the road for good luck. Is it just me, or does that sound like something crazed-fan would do?

So tonight Jesse Litsch goes up against Edwin Jackson - the two have nearly identical stats this season: Litsch at 9-7 with a 4.01 ERA, and Jackson at 10-8 with a 3.83 ERA. Jesse has been phenomenal since returning from the minors, and has yet to surrender an earned run.
