I almost feel as if I am deeply immersed in a wet dream that has lasted for 9 days straight. Unbelievably, the Jays are undefeated in the month of September - sporting a 10 game win streak. Finally, 5 months into the season the 2008 Toronto Blue Jays are living up to their lofty expectations. But this 10 game win streak has not just been against teams that are out of it - they have all been against teams ahead of the Jays in the standings.
But unfortunately, it's a little too late if they are looking to make the playoffs. Despite going on such a rabid tear over the past few weeks, the Jays are still 7 back of the Boston Red Sox for the American League Wild Card. This just goes to show you how long of a baseball season it is. Boston and Tampa have both played consistently well over the season. The Jays on the other hand have played average all year, but suddenly kicked it into overdrive.
But the late season surge may not be enough, because the Red Sox and Rays have already gained so much momentum, that it will be tough to push them off the top of the standings. I don't want to give up hope, but at the same time this winning streak is incredible and has got a lot of people believing they can pull a 2007 Colorado Rockies.
For now, I'll be rooting for the Rays to beat down the Red Sox this week so that the Jays can swoop into Fenway Park on Friday and finish off the kill. And so far they are already 1 for 2 in assisting the Blue Jays. Thank you!
