Don't Stop Believing

I hate to be the stereotypical sports fan by proclaiming eternal hope for my favourite team, but in this particular case I just couldn't help myself. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in all the negative press about the upcoming season for the 2009 Toronto Blue Jays, but it takes a strong fan to continue to believe in success.

Just as a sidenote, my favourite song "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey has been used as song of hope for the 2005 Chicago White Sox, the 2006 Detroit Tigers, as well as the 2008 Los Angeles Dodgers. Now would be a great time to proclaim the same tune as the rally cry for the 2009 Toronto Blue Jays. If anything, we can at least give Steve Perry some kickass royalty cheques.

  1. The official song of the Bluejays 2009 seaon should be "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats.

  2. I have heard from many a reputable source that "South Detroit," where the small-town girl was born and raised, is in fact meant as a reference to Windsor, Ontario - which makes the song yours by geographical proxy.

As a Sox fan, I still cringe every time I think of drunken A.J. Pierzynski belting that song out at the post-Series rally.

  3. I made that video, it's gotten around a fair bit, I guess.

It actually made the front page of Yahoo Sports Canada haha.

Cheer up guys, its gonna be an alright season :)

  4. Anonymous, I think that "The Safety Dance" is a great suggestion for the off season song so far.

Andrew, thanks for coming over to the dark side! If "Don't Stop Believing" is actually about somebody in Windsor, then that makes me love the song even more. I'm so sorry about hammered A.J. Pierzynski ruining that song for you.

Carson, that video is amazing. I saw it on Sports and City and then on Big League Stew so congratulations. Which program did you use to put that together?

  5. Just Sony Vegas, actually the first time I ever used it.

Yeah, I guess it made the rounds alright. Also sorry to kill the buzz 'round here but Ive never liked Journey.

    Go Jays

  6. "We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody's takin' the chance
    Oh Well the safety dance
    ah yes the safety dance"

  7. Journey isn't exactly one of the Great American acts, but I heard they're opening up the Superbowl. SCORE!

  8. More Hardball wants to know who has the hottest fans in baseball. We'll be running a set of posts over the following weeks featuring images of each teams' hotties, with a voting poll to crown a champion. We're starting with the AL East and we'll continue through the rest of the American League, then on to the National League. Sticking true to Major League Baseball's roots, there will be an eight team playoff system where the winners of each division square off with addition of a wild card team to determine who wins the pennant and represents each league in the World Series of Hotness.
