I hope they have some great breakfast joints for Gregg Zaun in Baltimore, because it looks like he will be eating there a lot this year. Apparently the Orioles are close to signing Zaun as their starting catcher for the first part of the 2009 season. The O's are currently in the process of grooming young Matt Wieters as their catcher of the future, but in the meantime Gregg with two g's will get a kick at the can. I can imagine it will be either a 1 year deal with an option for 2010.
In other free agent signing news, it appears that the Boston Red Sox are attempting to sign every Japanese pitcher in the league by adding reliever Takashi Saito. It's a bit of a gamble, as Saito was sidelined for a good part of the second half of the season with a right elbow injury. I guess the Los Angeles Dodgers figured he was too much of a risk as closer this season. Although the Red Sox now have 4 Japanese pitchers on the team, I'm still waiting for them to sign more players with moustaches.
