Cecil's Maiden Voyage in Dunedin

Well, it wasn't exactly the homecoming that the Blue Jays were hoping for.

Highly-touted Jays prospect Brett Cecil pitched his way through 2 innings and struck out 4 Yankees, while giving up one run in today's opener in Dunedin. Ricky Romero picked up for Cecil in the 3rd inning, and got lit up for 3 runs, including a 2-run homerun from Alex Rodriguez. Not quite the start we hoped for, but it is after all the first game of spring training. It's not like the Blue Jays just lost a tiebreaker playoff game.

Maybe the most promising news from today's game was the power displayed by Travis Snider. In two at-bats, Snider hit a deep fly ball to centre and a double to the left-centre gap. According to Jordan Bastian's tweets, Snider's batting practice was also impressive.

My boy Scott Richmond takes to the hill tomorrow, and will hopefully start to win over some of the nay-sayers about his place in the rotation. Start sipping on the Scott Richmond Kool-Aid folks, we'll be serving it up all season long!

  1. A home run by A-Rod?!?! How convenient..........

    He's still on the juice.

  2. I've been drinking that Kool-Aid by the pitcher!

    (pun not initially intended)

  3. Very clever LJ, I wish I had thought of that one before I decided on this blog post title. Damn!

  4. It went over my head until the last minute. Honestly unintended. I'm not sure what's worse: the pun, or that it just sounds vaguely dirty. o.O Anyway... I hope he's tossing *against* the Jays on the 3rd!

  5. I'm not sure who's scheduled to start the March 2nd game. I know Clement throws Friday, and Doc pitches Saturday. If they stick to the "rotation" then that means Scotty would go again on Tuesday, but I don't think they're following a 5-man rotation right now.

Remember to take lots of pictures LJ!
