TGIF Notes

By
So much is happening so fast at Blue Jays spring training camp, that it's almost difficult to keep up with all the news! Here are some notes from what's transpired over the past few days;

Blue Jays Beat reporter
Jordan Bastian talked to Aaron Hill and it sounds like Aaron is ready to go for Opening Day at second base. His presence was missed greatly on the team last year, and folks are really looking forward to seeing Hill return to Blue Jays.

Although positional players were not required to show up until today, Scott Rolen waited until the last possible second to join the Blue Jays in Dunedin. One half of Millista (Jose Bautista) reported to camp yesterday, leaving Rolen as the only remaining Blue Jay to show up for spring training. Hey, so long as Rolen doesn’t show up “A-Rod Fashionably Late”, that’s fine by me.

It turns out that Roberto Alomar could in fact still join the Blue Jays spring training coaching staff … if he wants to. According to Globe Sports, Robbie has not yet confirmed or denied that he will or will not join the coaching staff. Cito says that the invite is still there though. I imagine that Alomar would probably not want to face the media onslaught down in Dunedin, but it would be cool to see him join former Jays like Pat Hentgen on the coaching staff.

If you haven’t already, check out the Blue Jays spring training photos on the Daylife website. There are some great candid photos on there, from B.J. Ryan (literally) grooming Shaun Marcum, to Jesse Listch trying on some X-Ray specs, or even just the sights of beautiful Dunedin Florida.

NBC Sports previews the Blue Jays, and predicts that Scott Richmond will be the Blue Jays 5th starter. Yes, finally someone else who has taken a sip of the Richmond Kool-Aid!

Remember, we’re just a mere 5 days away from the first Grapefruit League matchup between the Jays and Yankees. Damn I wish that spring training games were televised

  1. The first game on 590 will be on the 28th. Won't THAT be music to our ears! I can't wait.

  2. And we have to wait until March 3rd to watch the first televised game of the year (Jays vs. Team Canada).
