Romero tames Tigers

Congratulations to Ricky Romero for scoring his first big league win today in the “Battle of the Rick’s”. Romero was matched up against another first-round pick also making his MLB debut, Rick Porcello of the Tigers.

Looking back, I never really hopped on the Ricky Romero train during Spring Training, but I’m certainly rethinking that. Cito Gaston shocked us with his announcement in March that Romero was suddenly thrust back into the arms race for the Jays final rotation spots. In his previous outings, Romero was never really that dominant, so it was a surprise to learn that he was back up for consideration. What can I say … Cito with all his wealth in baseball knowledge, was right.

Another thing that Romero has going for him is his likeness to James Todd Smith the 3rd, as people are starting to notice that Ricky Romero bears a certain similarity to LL Cool J. Just imagine if LL were to trade his Kangol hat for a Blue Jays cap, and that’s pretty much Ricky Romero. And I think I have the perfect nickname for him too – RR Cool Jay.

But if we call him Rick Ro’, there’s so many Rick Astley jokes we can make. For example, Never Gonna Give The Lead Up, or for a nice defensive play, He’s No Stranger To Glove.

Also, don’t forget the possibility of Rick-Rolls. I’m Ricky stays around, I’m looking forward to making Rick Astley references all throughout the season.
