Reflecting on the 2009 Blue Jays

There are a lot of things that the Toronto Blue Jays can take away from this season. Whether it was starting the year at the top of the division or ending the year being swept by the Baltimore Orioles, at least the Blue Jays kept us entertained throughout the long and grueling 162 game schedule.

Below is a collection of some of my favourite moments from this past season. Enjoy!

Paper airplanes being thrown onto the field at Opening Day Jason Frasor AKA “The Sausage King”
Brian Tallet’s moustache Scott Richmond’s rookie of the month award
RR Cool Jay Being in first place and 14 games above .500
Walkoff wins Halladay vs. Burnett
Rod Barajas collapsing at home plate The Melonheads
Viva La Rolen
Unfortunate yet hilarious signs and shirts
Roy Halladay starting the All-Star Game Aaron Hill and Adam Lind’s awesomeness
The Bautista Appreciation Society Randy Ruiz hitting HR’s when he actually got a chance to play
Figuring out how to spell Marc Rzepczynski’s last name The Back2Back Reunion
The Jays/Yankees fight The almost Jays/Red Sox fight

Ian Hunter

Ian has been writing about the Toronto Blue Jays since 2007. He enjoyed the tail-end of the Roy Halladay era and vividly remembers the Alex Rodriguez "mine" incident. He'll also retell the story of Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS to his kids for the next 20 years.

I honestly can't remember ever having a season of so many ups and downs. A lot of really great things happened this year so there is a lot to look forward to next year. I already miss them…

eyeB, thank you! It really was a crazy ride, and I look forward to doing it all over again next year.

Mattt, this year it seemed like there was a lot of outside media attention on the Blue Jays (Halladay, Citogate, the basebrawl). It was memorable to say the least!

BK, I was also glad to see that there is someone else out there who is as enthralled with the Melonheads as I am. I think we should nominate them as fans of the year (not the fake umps).

woodpeck, I have a feeling that bad blood between the Red Sox and the Blue Jays is not over. The first game they play next year, there will almost certainly be a beaning. I hope it's Halladay who does it again.
