Flashback Friday: Joe Carter Raffles off Derek Bell’s Jeep

The look on Derek Bell’s face pretty much says it all, doesn’t it?

Often times, veterans on teams take it upon themselves to initiate rookies in some form or another. In 1992, Joe Carter wanted to make a lasting impression on Derek Bell by pulling a prank with one of his most prized possessions: his Jeep Cherokee.

For this week’s Flashback Friday, we take a look at Joe Carter’s attempt to raffle off his teammate Derek Bell’s Jeep.

Vehicle giveaways at baseball games are not all that uncommon, but Joe Carter and Dave Winfield decided to raffle off one of their very own teammates vehicles. This was all a part of Fan Appreciation Day at the Skydome in 1992.

Derek Bell’s reaction is pretty priceless when he discovers that the Jeep being brought out onto the field was actually his.

Something similar also happened earlier this season when R.A. Dickey hijacked Daniel Norri’s van and drove it onto the field during Blue Jays Spring Training.
